What Odyssey Is
Odyssey is a free web application for planning real-world adventures with friends and building the habits needed to prepare for them. It combines adventure planning, habit tracking, fitness monitoring, and group coordination into a single tool. It is not a social network — there are no feeds, likes, or content discovery features. Its purpose is to help friend groups organise outdoor activities and hold each other accountable for preparation.
Who It Is For
- People who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, skiing, surfing, trail running, cycling, or camping.
- Friend groups who want to plan trips and adventures together.
- Individuals who want to build consistent fitness habits in preparation for physical challenges.
- People looking for a purpose-driven alternative to traditional social media.
Features That Exist Today
- Adventure planning: Create adventures with target dates, date ranges, locations, categories (hiking, climbing, skiing, etc.), budgets, fitness requirements (target VO2 max, body fat range, weekly training hours, required certifications), and descriptions.
- Group coordination: Invite friends by email or shareable link. Each adventure has an accepted/pending member list with roles (admin, member).
- Adventure chat: Built-in group messaging per adventure with unread indicators and real-time updates.
- Shared links: Attach labelled URLs (gear lists, route maps, accommodation bookings) to each adventure.
- Habit tracking: Create daily, weekly, or monthly habits with categories and icons. Log completions with proportional scoring — partial progress counts.
- Adventure-linked habits: Map personal habits to specific adventures. Adventure creators can define recommended habits for the group; members map them to their own tracking.
- Readiness score: Per-member composite score combining fitness metrics (VO2 max, body fat %, training hours), habit consistency, budget savings, and certifications against adventure targets.
- Health metrics logging: Record VO2 max, body fat %, resting heart rate, sleep quality, weekly training hours, weight, height, and recovery score over time.
- Fitness dashboard: Radar chart of current fitness metrics, trend charts over time, and overall health score.
- Hall of Fame: Completed adventures with reflections, lessons learned, performance ratings, and "would repeat" flags.
- Friends system: Add friends by email, accept/decline requests, block contacts.
- Member comparison: View readiness scores side-by-side across adventure group members.
- Authentication: Email/password signup with email verification.
- PWA: Installable as a Progressive Web App on mobile devices.
- Profile: Display name, avatar, biological sex (for fitness benchmarks), unit system preference (metric/imperial).
